— IDEAlliance Print Properties Working Group

After two long years of research, press runs, and international comment, IDEAlliance Print Properties Working Group has posted 3 finalized datasets. The new IDEAlliance Off-Press Proofing Systems Certification program is based on these data sets. GRACoL 7 and SWOP 11 will reference these datasets.

— New FOGRA 39 characterization dataset

Based on extensive praxis tests the process standard ISO 12647-2, reflecting the fundament of the Process Standard offset printing [PSO], has been slightly modified with respect to the solid coloration. These changes are covered in a separate document called ISO 12647-2:2006 DAM 1, which amend the valid standard ISO 12647-2. Due to this changes a new characterization data set has been created namely FOGRA39. It totally reflects the current primaries defined in ISO 12647-2 DAM 1.

New characterization data are available free of charge at download area of the Fogra website and the corresponding ICC profile, named ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc, at www.eci.org.

The following ICC profiles have been created with PerfX Color Management Pro™ version 4 , using the FOGRA 39L datasets made available by FOGRA.

The (PCRI) “Pictorial Color Reference Images” from the CMS Lab of the Gravure departement of RIT Institute, are used to demonstrate how three ICC profilers, using the same UCR black generation curve, can reproduce the original color reference images. Thoses images are available at: http://www.rit.edu/~gravure/CMS2007/test_images.html#pcri

Pictorial Color Reference Images (PCRI) is a set of digital images and is copyrighted by Robert Chung under the law of the United States. These files may not be downloaded and copied without the permission. These files may not be sold, distributes, or taken out of context such that it creates a false or misleading statement as to the purpose of the PCRI. User of the PCRI images must give proper attribution to Robert Chung, the copyright owner. • The reference images are in RGB color space, using the “sRGB IEC61966-2.1” ICC profile.

• The CMYK reference used to create the three ICC profiles is the latest “GRACoL 7 2006 Coated 1” characterization dataset available on the GRACoL web site at www.gracol.org.

• The Black generation used to generate the three ICC profiles is as follow:
—Max Ink coverage = 320
—Max Black = 95%
—Black Start = 25-30%
—Black generation type = UCR* (No automatic Black generation have been used)
Black generation settings used to create those ICC profile are available uppon request.

• The latest available versions of the three profilers have been used to create the ICC profiles.
One of the three profiler is PerfX Color management ProTM v.3.7.6™ from TGLC inc.

The ICC comparison shows the “composite CMYK”; “CMY channels” and the “Black channel” side by side. This comparison wants to show what is “under the Black” channel and how each ICC profilers generates the CMYK separations.
